"You're not fat!!!!"
Here's how the conversation goes..
I say "Something hilariously witty and refer to myself as a fat girl."
You say "Don't say that!!! You're not fat!!!!"
I say "Ummmm... I'm sorry, I didn't know you were blind.."
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "fat" as:
I guess this post ties in with my reclaiming of the word fat, somewhat.
I understand that a lot of people just aren't comfortable, and think it's insulting or something. And that's fine. But there's no sense in flat out denying it. I've come to terms with it. So should you. Acceptance is the first step, after-all, isn't it?
And after the infamous "You're not fat!!!" line, I'm put in a super awkward position. Wondering partially, "Wtf is wrong with this person? Clearly, I'm fuckin' fat." How do I even respond to that. I've stated the obvious. A fact, even. And now you've gone and told me I'm wrong, when I very clearly am not. Where do I go from here? How do I move this conversation forward? Usually just a chuckle, followed by an eye-rolling "Oooooook, crazy!"
Not entirely sure how to wrap this up. I guess if someone states the obvious, don't deny it. But if it makes you feel uncomfortable to go with it, maybe just go with the chuckle, followed by an eye-rolling "Ooooooook, crazy!" Apparently, this will work for either party in this situation when they just don't know what else to say.

I ain't settlin' for anything less then everything.
Sugarland - Settlin'
This song has become the theme song to my life, I think.
I was talking to a friend of mine a while back, he's a great great guy. But maybe physically, not everyone's dream man. And he has his hmmm.. we'll call them quirks. Anyway, we were talking about people friend's have talked about us possibly dating. He once had a friend try to set him up with another friend's socially delayed sister. I once upon a time had someone try to set me up with his friend who suffered from major ADHD. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being socially delayed, or having ADHD, but why should I settle for dating someone's slightly handicapped friend? I know how this might come across, and I apologize if that's how you interpret it, as I assure you that's not how I mean it.. From where we stood, it came across as insulting. That's the point I'm trying to make here. I'm sorry better words escape me when I'm ridiculously exhausted.
What I mean is, just because I'm a fatty, and haven't had much luck in the dating department, why should I settle for someone who is so far from my idea of the perfect mate? When it comes down to it, I'd rather be alone then know I'm settling on someone just for the sake of being with someone. You know?
Just because society views me as a lesser human being, doesn't mean I should date someone else society views as a lesser human being. Why shouldn't I be 100% physically attracted to the man I'm with? Why shouldn't he be on my level intellectually, maybe a little higher, even? Why shouldn't I be with someone who is emotionally, mentally, psychologically stable? Why should I have to settle for anything less then everything I want?
Maybe I'm being a little selfish. But this is the rest of MY life I'm talking about. So I'm going to be selfish. I'm not going to settle on meh, I'm going to strive for everything.
Also, to update, Mr. Calls me beautiful, no mention of curves, is apparently too busy for me these days. So, that's fine. Because I want someone who has time for me. Ain't settlin'!

"You're beautiful, I love your curves."
Why can't they just stop at "You're beautiful."? They always need to tack on that last little bit, calling me out on being a fatty.
Now, I'm comfortable with who I am. Sometimes I even border on confident in my looks. And who doesn't love to hear someone tell them how pretty they are?? I love compliments! Keep 'em coming! But why the need to remind me that I'm fat. "You're pretty, but you're pretty because I'm into fat chicks." Awesome... Thanks...
I think about 95% percent of the time someone's complimented my appearance they've added something about my extra bits. More recently though, the gentlemen I'm currently dating, just straight up said "You're beautiful." And wow, was that ever refreshing! I didn't really think too much into it at that moment, but after the conversation I just had with a friend of mine, where the "You're beautiful, fatty." thing came up, I'm realizing just how nice it actually was. I mean, he must genuinely find me attractive. Not just because he has a fat fetish. No, he just thinks I'm beautiful.
HALLELUJAH!
Moral of this story though, (Guys, listen up!) stop reminding me I'm fat. I appreciate that you appreciate my curves. But you don't need to keep telling me. Or any of us for that matter. Sometimes you just need to keep it simple. It'll go a long way. Guaranteed.

Reclaiming the word "FAT"
I have no problems whatsoever referring to myself as "the fat girl", "being the fattie" or just using the word "fat" to describe myself.
In my opinion, "fat" is just an adjective. Sure, I could dress it up, refer to myself as "pleasantly plump", "fluffy", the ever popular "curvy", but "fat" is short and easy, so why bother?
Apparently people find this word offensive. It seems to make the skinny folk uncomfortable when I use it. Maybe that's why I do... I enjoy watching the skinnies squirm. Muahahaha.
But when you think about it, if I were to say "Oh wow! You're so thin!" Chances are you wouldn't find this terribly offensive, more of a mere observation. But if I were to say "Oh wow! You're so fat!", chances are, if this were to you, or you overheard me say this to someone, you'd think, "Wow, what a bitch.." It's just an adjective!
On the other hand though.. I suppose it's one thing for me to call myself fat, but if someone else did I might feel offended.
I guess it's like the N word... If you're black, it's totally ok.
So if you're fat, well let's own the word!
Fuck yeah! I'm fat! Go team!
Ok, so I just got sort of lazy finishing this up. It's late, I'm tired, give me a break. :P

Bad Rep!
I'm not going to point any fingers here, and I'm not sure if I've touched on this before, but it's something that's been on my mind for a while, so let's put it out there!
Come now childrens, gather 'round, time for a story!
Once upon a time, there was a fat girl. This fat girl didn't have much in terms of standards, and often boasted about her many sexual conquests. She wasn't really a woman of beauty or class, but alas, she was who she was. Anyway, this girl got around. And she wasn't exactly picky.
Now, that's fine and all. If that's how you have chosen to live your life, good for you! Just you know, be safe, etc.
But here's where I have an issue. Because of her open door policy, many of her "conquests" are under the impression all fat girls have the same stance. "You want it, you got it!"
No. Just no.
And it's such a shame! She's giving us all a bad rep.
Now, I'm not some stuck up prude, guarding my flower and all that bullshit. But there is no reason for men to assume that just because I'm fat I'll come waddling over to jump your bones.
Anyway, there were a couple of other directions I wanted to take here. But that's where I'll go for now.

Fat friends dating friends?
I know alot of couples who have met through friends.
"Oh, I think I know someone who you might really hit it off with! I'll set something up!"
That's something I've never had said to me.
No one wants to set someone up with their fat friend.
Is it because they assume no one wants to date a fat girl? Or because they don't want their friend dating a fat girl?
I'm curious. Genuinely curious. When you are talking to that guy you've just met, or that guy you used to know from that place, and you think, "Man, I should really introduce him to *insert single thin girl's name here*." Why doesn't the single fat girl's name cross your mind?
Friends who are currently single, and not fat, almost constantly being "set up" with other single friends.
I'm not going to lie, I'm actually a little offended guys. I'm a fun person, genuine, sweet, nice, funny. And as far as fat girls go, I'd go so far as to say I'm kind of cute, pretty, even. Let's face it, I've got a pretty great head of hair, and my eyes, they're fucking gorgeous. So, where are all your single man friends? Hmmmm?

OMG I LOST 25 LBS!!!!
Ok, so, unintentionally..
I was sick for about three weeks. First a lovely summer cold (Always a favorite!), followed by strep throat AND an inner ear infection (Yay!), and then some virul infection that caused me unrelenting headaches, muscle aches and pains, zero energy, nausea, vomiting, dizzyness, lightheadedness, fever, chills, and then half my body went numb.
So, didn't really eat much! And now that I'm over it, I'm assuming my stomach has shrunk, because I'm only eating maybe one full meal a day, and half way through it, I'm feeling stuffed.
At the beginning of the week, I went shopping with my parents to Cosco, and naturally, we decide to grab some dinner before heading home. I opted for the chicken fingers and fries. Yum. Well, a handful of fries and one chicken finger in, I'm already full. But I said to myself, no, these chicken fingers are delicious! I must press on. So I finished the chicken, nibbled a few more fries, and felt like I was going to explode. So we sat for a bit, then my Mom decided she was in the mood for ice cream. OMG. Last time we were there, I really wanted a cone, but they were out of cones, and in a bowl? Please. Not the same. So I said, "Fuck it! I want some damn ice cream." So there I am, enjoying a waffle cone full of swirl ice cream. As we're walking to the car, I say to my Dad, "I think I'm going to puke." He laughs at me. I sit down in the driver seat, lean out of the car, and "BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" Ice cream, all over Cosco parking lot.
So, joking about my Cosco puke with friends, and being excited about the 25lbs lost, I've concluded that the best way for a fat girl to lose weight is to be an Anorexic Bullemic.
Not eat, then throw it all up when I do!
I'm kidding of course.
Before you all panic and dial up a therapist for me.
I'm not the eating disorder type. I HATE throwing up. Ew. And let's face it, I really like cheeseburgers and cookies.
But, it's a bit depressing to know, that in terms of weight loss, that system appears to work for me. Terrifying, actually.
I plan on continuing with the smaller portions, and am hoping to include a bit more physical activity in my day to day life. So I'll keep you updated on how this works out.
But I guess I should be somewhat thankful for my 3 weeks of agony. Although I could have gone without all the dizzyness.

All fat girls look alike. ..?
This is a picture of myself, and my friend and coworker Charlene.
In our opinion, we look nothing alike. Occasionally our hair is similar in color, not often. And we both happen to be fat girls. Here's how we are visibly different: I am fatter. I wear glasses (ALL THE TIME). We have completely different hair cuts. Different styles in clothing. Completely different facial features. The list goes on.
Now, this happens often, especially at our place of work. With both customers and coworkers. I'm always being called Charlene, or someone calls her Treasure. Or we are told by a customer that we helped them yesterday or the day before. Meanwhile, we weren't in..
So I'm curious, why is this? Because we're of the plus sized variety we get rolled into being the same person? That seems a little harsh, no?

Hot guys who like fat girls.
Was just attempting to have a conversation with possibly the hottest man I've ever seen who is apparently into fat girls..
But, and I'm not lieing, he refused to tell me anything about himself, unless I showed him my boobs...
What. The. Fuck.
Like, who the hell does this guy think he is? I don't care if you're Keith Urban, well.. maybe if you're Keith Urban... but who thinks they can just be like that to someone?
What bothers me most, I think, is he obviously thinks this is ok, because I'm sure there has been more then one fat girl who has dropped trou on cam just to have a conversation with this guy. This makes me sad. To think that women are so willing to bypass any of their morals or values just to have a shot at talking to this guy.
Here's what he looks like, if the pics are even real..
And here is the end of our brief conversation:
28/05/2010 12:25:13 AM ~Treasure~ so, tell me a bit about yourself unrelated to your love of boobs

Conspiracy Theory
I have a theory. A theory I've voiced to friends. A theory I'm going to share with you here today.
My theory is that there is a conspiracy to keep fat women from wearing bathing suits.
Here is why I've come to this conclusion..
Last summer I was in the market for a new bathing suit. My old one was worn, and well, just completely unflattering. Every single suit I tried on was floral. Fat women look awful in floral. Fat women look awful in many large printed patterns, for that matter. Well, not all fat women, and not all patterns. But it's not easy to pull off on the best of days.
So I have come to the conclusion that in order to keep fat women from parading around in swimsuits, we'll just be given nothing but ugly options for swimsuits, therefore deciding it best we avoid the beach altogether.
Well, I bought a swimsuit. And yes, unfortunately, the bust of the suit is of a floral nature. But this summer, I will wear my floral swimsuit with pride! Because I love going to the beach. And God Damnit! The beach is going to love me!

Long-time-no-blogging.
So... What has she been up to you may be asking?
Well the answer is, this fat girl went out and got herself a boyfriend! Yes folks, a real live one! He was cute too! And apparently into big girls. I say was, because the relationship recently ended. On good terms, I might add, and we plan to remain friends.
Anyway, what I want to talk about today is not the end of the relationship, but the beginning. Of course, as can be expected, I was nervous to "bare all" and crawl out of my fat girl shell.
I asked some of the questions I'm always curious about when a man shows an interest. "Why do you like me? I'm fat, why are you into that? Have you always dated big girls?"
And Oh Gawd! His answers were perfect. "I like you because you're a great person. It doesn't matter what size you are, I don't care about that, you're beautiful. I've always been more attracted to bigger girls."
Even though he reassured me many times, in many ways how attractive he found me, and even though I felt comfortable with him, it remained difficult to show all my fat girl parts to him, at least while the room was lighted. But even in the dark, knowing he'd been up close and personal with my body, I still felt the need to hide, whether under the shred of blanket I could find, or pulling my hair down to cover rolls.
He of course, didn't understand this. I at times don't understand it. I can be feeling confident in myself, in my appearance, feeling sexy even. And then it happens... That thought creeps into the back of my mind... "You think you're hot, but you're still a fatty."
I go onto websites like bbwchatzone.com, and see these women showing off all of their curves, just oozing with self-confidence. I'm so jealous of these women.
I know I'll never be thin. But I would love at some point in my life to feel completely confident in my appearance. To walk into a room, and own it. Not think, "They're looking cause I'm the fat girl."

Desperate?
In my time spent living life as a fat girl, I have found that both men and women alike seem to be under the impression that fat girls are desperate. Desperate for friendships, for romances, for attention, for sex, etc. That, since we're fat, and people don't like fat, fat girls are desperate, and should take what they can get.
How shitty is that? I'm the furthest thing from desperate. I'd rather spend my time alone then go off desperately seeking attention or companionship.
Fat girls are seen as easy targets, or, an easy lay, if you will. I guess because we're fat, people assume no one loves us, and if they offer, we'll accept. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, as I've seen big girls who get a little attention when they desperately seek it. But some of us have a higher level of self-respect.

At Halloween... Everything comes in skank.
Halloween costumes.
Sexy, slutty, whoreish Halloween Costumes.
For those of us fat girls who plan to go out in public, these are not always an excellent time.
Now, I know there are some big girls out there who like to flaunt their stuff. ALL of their stuff. I am not one of those big girls. I give major props to those who are, I could never muster that much confidence. Yeah, I like to look sexy, but not with all my fat hanging out.
Last year I had an incredibly difficult time finding a Halloween costume that was sexy, while not making me look like a fat hooker. I eventually found something on E-Bay. A lovely pirate costume.
I'd looked at stores in Winnipeg; Wal-Mart, where the only plus size options were, and I'm not kidding, I have witnesses, Witch, French Maid, or Devil, and Party Stuff, where, everything comes in cleavage and short short skirt. Nothing at Party Stuff fit in a way that I was comfortable with, and well, I don't want to be a Witch, French Maid, or Devil.
I guess this goes hand in hand with the Pants blog. Plus size clothing designers just do not understand the needs and wants of the plus sized consumer.
I don't have much time for this entry, as I'm actually getting ready to go out and enjoy some Halloween festivities, but I'd just like to say that, not all women want to look like cheap whores. Please give us more options.

Big girls like...
Recently I was approached by a friend, he's a young, out-of-the-closet BBW admirer, asking why it is that big girls are typically more attracted to bigger guys. The guy who asked is on the thinner side, so I can understand his concern.
So, why is it that larger ladies seem to go for larger men? The main reason that comes to my mind? Balance. Seems, silly.. I know. But, and using myself as an example, although I'm usually more physically attracted to men of a thinner/average size, I almost always envisioned myself ending up in a relationship with a larger man.
I guess, when the guy is bigger, it feels in a way, more secure, like, there's more of him to protect you? I know the feminists will love that one...
Also, take into consideration, girl on top, I am terrified I will break the guy underneath me. But if he's bigger then I am, not really a concern.
I think it's mostly the stereotype that in a relationship the woman is supposed to be this teeny fragile thing, and her partner should be a big brooding man. Well, when the woman is big and brooding, then what? I guess we just tend to lean towards the "Find a man who is BIGGER and MORE BROODING".
Big girls are often insecure about their bodies, so it's comforting to know that the man seeing you naked doesn't have a rockin' bod. Even if the thinner/average guy doesn't have a "rockin' bod", compared to how the girl sees herself, this man is a god. When the guy you're getting naked with is a big guy, it's not as tough, he's got rolls, you've got rolls. You both sweat in places thinner people don't. If he's not perfect, you feel better about you not being perfect..
I don't know if this will help with this query... But I thought about it, and this is all I got. I may touch on this subject more in the future, as it's something I found interesting to blog about.
If you have any questions or topics you'd like to see discussed, post it in the comments or send me an email!

Pants.
Yes, ladies and gents. This blog entry is about pants.
Oh. My. God. I HATE shopping for pants!!
My biggest problem? The thigh! Yes, I am a fat girl. Yes, I typically wear a size 22/24/26 pant/jean depending on the make. Wow, I actually just put my pant size on the internet for all to see. That's how serious I'm taking this blog. Now, plus size clothing designers, listen up. Just because my waist is large, does NOT mean my thighs are GIANORMOUS! Yeah, they're large, but clearly not as large as you seem to think they are.
If I were to take the excess fabric hanging off of my thighs, and sew it together, I could fit a third thigh into it. And I'm not talking a loose fitting jean, or a pair of cargos. This is on a pair of flared or bootleg jeans. Even on a "Skinny" jean, this happened. Not to mention it wasn't even a skinny jean. When I think skinny jean, I think skin tight denim. Not a slim fit baggy thigh jean.
This happens with jeans, shorts, dress pants, EVERYTHING! And yeah, I understand there are some girls out there who wear these sizes and need the large thigh. But, and this is just a thought, what if stretch was incorporated into most, if not all plus size pants, therefore those who don't need all that extra space can still find a jean that fits in the waist and the thigh.
I'm also short. 29 is the perfect pant length for me. 28 shrinks up just a bit too short, and 30, 32 drags. And I hate hemming pants, it throws off the entire shape and fit. Do you know how hard it is to find a good fitting jean or dress pant with a 29 inch leg? HARD!!!
So, in conclusion, a little stretch, and smaller thighs will go a long, long way.
